Vegan Dundee

Superdrug is becoming known as the place to go for affordable vegan makeup products. I was in need of a new mascara so thought I'd do a little research before popping into the store to check out which brands we have in our Dundee branch and was pleasantly surprised by the choice.

Barry M - cruelty free + some vegan products
BarryM was always my favourite for nail polish and bold lipsticks as a teenager so I was pleased to see they now have labels on their display and products identifying the vegan items. This included sparkly nail polish, lip and eye makeup!

Collection
- cruelty free + some vegan products

A budget brand with everything under £5, their product ingredients list can be seen here.

Sleek Makeup - cruelty free + some vegan products
Not clearly labelled or easy to find info on their website, there is a list on The Vegan Taff blog

GOSH - cruelty free + some vegan products
Full list of vegan products can be seen here or head to Superdrug's website to see which they have available.

B. Cosmetics - 100% vegan + cruelty free
Exclusive to Superdrug this brand looks perfect for everyday products and is super good value too. It was great to see this little sign as part of the display and the individual products were labelled vegan too. I ended up purchasing a mascara from here for just £6.66 (usually £9.99 but there was 1/3 off promo - yay!)

On this occasion I visited the Overgate Superdrug branch so the available makeup brands may vary from store to store. It's great to see some affordable high street cosmetics start labelling clearer making it much easier to shop for vegan, cruelty free products.

Whenever we're in Glasgow we try and squeeze in time for a quick visit to Kind Crusts for some of their famous doughnuts. We had a box of these last year for Falda's baby shower which her sister picked up to take to Dundee for us all to enjoy.

Kind Crusts is a tiny little cafe so you won't always get a seat but is perfect for takeaway. We arrived just before closing on this visit so were lucky to grab a box of 4 doughnuts to go - Custard Cream, Vimto, Chocolate Banana and The Homer. We shared these among four of us so decided to split them meaning we each could try all of the flavours. Custard Cream was the definite favourite, with The Homer being a close second for me. So yummy!

Last time we visited I had a Green Goddess Bagel from the breakfast menu - avocado, lemon mayo, toasted seeds and spinach on a toasted bagel. Unfortunately I didn't take a photo as it was pre-blog but it was honestly so good! A bargain too at £3.50 for such a nutritious, tasty and filling breakfast.

Myself and my sister Amy happened to be in London last week on the opening day of by CHLOE which is a super exciting plant based fast food restaurant. This is their first restaurant outside of the States and hopefully not their only one in the UK for much longer!

It was late morning on our visit but given that it was the opening day the queue was already well out the door! This didn't put us off and we went to join, there were lots of friendly staff welcoming everyone and we were handed a very cute menu then offered tasty samples while we waited. The wait wasn't as long as expected but we could see there were no seats left so decided just to get a few things to takeaway.

I opted for the Mac n' Cheese (admittedly I do this a lot as I'm determined to find the best replacement for one of the comfort foods I miss the most) and we had some of their fresh lemonade along with a cookie each. The sweet potato-cashew macaroni had crispy, smoky shiitake mushroom 'bacon' and it was seriously delicious, the best vegan macaroni I've had! The cookies were properly chewy and melty and I wish I'd bought more to take home but let's be honest, they wouldn't have survived the train journey. The restaurant is really pretty with such lovely branding too, their packaging especially, although there was a lot of it which felt a bit wasteful. Located in Covent Garden it's a great location to take away if you can't get a seat like us, as it seems likely that by CHLOE will be busy all the time! Now if we could just have one of these in Dundee sometime soon that'd be perfect, thanks.

P.S. sorry I didn't manage to find out all the usual extra details - it was too busy to check!

When we spent the weekend in Glasgow we planned to have lunch out but felt spoilt for choice and so didn't make a booking. We decided to wander around town and ended up at The 13th Note. We were lucky to get a table as it was very busy, as you'd expect on a Saturday lunch time. The menu was full of yummy looking options, all vegan unless marked with a V for vegetarian.

The 13th Note is known for their chips ("the best chips in Glasgow"), which they offer 6 varieties of! I went for the mac & cheese, which was lovely but more pesto-y than I'd expected. I'd decided not to order my own chips, which was probably a good thing as I wouldn't have managed with the size of the portions, but had hoped to share with David. This was a bit of a mistake as he just about inhaled his! The others ordered burgers and a chilli burrito. Everyone agreed their food was delicious. There were also lots of fab sounding vegan cocktails and desserts on the blackboards but sadly we weren't able to stay to try these.
Overall we really enjoyed our lunch which was great value for money too. The 13th Note had a lovely relaxed atmosphere and was super welcoming for dogs. Lunch is from 12pm-5pm and they offer a dinner menu from 5pm-9pm, with weekly specials to choose from too!
