The Old Auction Room Strichen

by - April 04, 2018

We had a busy Easter weekend spent with family visits up in Aberdeenshire. The weather wasn't great while we stayed in Fraserburgh with my grandparents but we thought it was a good chance to head over to The Old Auction Room in Strichen for an afternoon treat and a bit of fresh air.

As you head down the lane and through the gate there's not a hint of what's to come inside. The Old Auction Room is such a beautifully refurbished space. Filled with antiques, art and chandeliers this huge venue holds a cafe, antique shop and florist.
We were delighted to find that they had a vegan friendly freshly baked banana and dark chocolate loaf cake. We ordered two pieces along with a selection of soya milk coffees and a mocha. David did have to ask if the chocolate for the mocha was dairy free but the staff were happy to check this for us and showed us the ingredients list. The banana bread was delicious and our coffees had us suitably warmed up for our walk around the park later that afternoon. If you were visiting at lunch time they had two options on the menu - soup (the helpful staff confirmed that they always have a vegan soup) and roast veg & hummus available as a ciabatta, sandwich, toastie, wrap or salad. After our coffee and cake we browsed the antiques (watch out as there was some vintage taxidermy upstairs), you'll find all sorts of treasures in the shop. With plenty to look at, The Old Auction Room is the perfect place for a rainy day visit.
